Redirects

Introduction

The Redirects feature in your Oh My Hi admin dashboard lets you point old or outdated links to new pages — so no one ever hits a broken link or a 404 error. You can also use it to create short, memorable links that redirect to external URLs, like an affiliate link. The possibilities are endless, and once you start using it, you’ll find all kinds of ways it comes in handy!

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Understand When to Use Redirects

There are so many situations where redirects can save the day — here are just a few examples to get you thinking:

  • An old page is still being shared — maybe through an email campaign or a blog post — and you want visitors to land on your newer, updated page instead of a broken link.
  • Two blog posts cover the same topic — redirect the older one to the newer, more up-to-date version so readers always find your best content.
  • You want a short, easy link to share — instead of a long, complicated URL, create a clean slug like yoursite.com/omhi that takes people exactly where you want them to go.

💡 Think about any links you’re currently sharing — in emails, on social media, or in blog posts. Are any of them outdated or hard to remember? Those are great candidates for a redirect!

Step 2: Set Up an Internal Redirect

An internal redirect points one page on your site to another page on your site. Here’s how to set one up:

  1. Go to your Admin Dashboard and open the Redirects section.
  2. Click Add a Redirect.
  3. In the “Redirect From” field, enter the slug of the old page — that’s everything after the forward slash in the URL. For example, if the page is yoursite.com/old-page-2025, enter old-page-2025.
  4. In the “Redirect To” field, enter the slug of the new page you want visitors to land on.
  5. Click Save.

✅ To test it, open a new tab and visit the old URL — it should automatically take you to the new page.

Step 3: Set Up an External Redirect

You can also use a redirect to create a short, easy-to-share link that points to any external URL — like an affiliate link. Here’s how:

  1. In the Redirects section, click Add a Redirect.
  2. In the “Redirect From” field, enter a short, memorable slug — for example, omhi. This becomes the path on your site (e.g. yoursite.com/omhi).
  3. Select External URL as the redirect type.
  4. Paste your full external URL (like your affiliate link) into the URL field.
  5. Click Save.

💡 Use all lowercase letters for your slug — redirects are case-sensitive, and lowercase keeps things consistent and easy to share.

Now instead of trying to remember a long affiliate URL, you can simply share yoursite.com/omhi and visitors will be sent straight to the right destination with your affiliate link already included.

Wrap-Up

You now know how to use Redirects in your Oh My Hi dashboard — both to keep old links from breaking and to create clean, shareable shortcuts to any URL you choose. The more you use it, the more ways you’ll discover to make it work for you!
