If you’re sending marketing emails, you’ve probably seen that a physical mailing address is required in the footer of every email you send. This is part of CAN-SPAM compliance (the law that sets rules for commercial email).
If you work from home, you may not want to share your personal address in your emails which is completely understandable!
Here’s what you need to know about your options, and how Oh My Hi can help.
Why Do I Need a Physical Address?
CAN-SPAM requires that marketing emails include a valid physical postal address. This doesn’t have to be your home address — it just has to be a place where you can receive mail related to your email communications.
What Are My Options for a Physical Address?
There are a few common choices for meeting this requirement:
- Rent a P.O. Box
You can rent a P.O. Box from your local post office. This gives you a mailing address that’s not tied to your home. - Virtual Mailbox
This is similar to a P.O. box except that you don’t have a physical location to go to retrieve mail. They will scan and email your mail to you or ship it to you if needed. We use and recommend Stable for this. - Use a UPS Store Mailbox
UPS Stores offer mailboxes with a real street address, which looks more professional and can receive mail from all carriers. - Use Your Work Address or Coworking Space
If you have a business office or coworking space, you may be able to use that address. - Ask a Trusted Friend or Business Owner
A friend with a business location might be willing to let you use their address to meet the legal requirement.
The Easy Solution: Use Our Address
Oh My Hi customers can use our virtual business address for free in their email footers!
