Update the Book Page Template

Introduction

This tutorial is only applicable to customers using the Author template.

This tutorial will guide you through the process of updating the book template which sets how books pages are displayed on your site.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Access the Templates Section

  1. Navigate to the “Advanced” section in your dashboard
  2. Select “Templates” from the menu options
  3. In the search field, type “book” to locate the book template
  4. Find and select “Single Item Book” from the search results

Step 2: Understand the Template Structure

  • The template contains your site’s header and footer
  • The middle section contains a group that pulls in all your book content
  • Content elements include:
    • Featured image
    • Title
    • Subtitle
    • Description
    • Purchase links section

Step 3: Edit Existing Content

  1. Click on any text element you want to modify (such as headings or paragraphs)
  2. Make your desired changes directly in the editor
    • Example: Change “Available now for purchase” to “Buy at these locations”
  3. Delete any existing blocks or sections you don’t want on the page by clicking on it to select it and pressing the delete key on your keyboard

Step 4: Add New Content Sections (optional)

  1. Click where you want to add new content within the template
  2. Open the Pattern Library from the editor menu
  3. Browse pre-built sections (recommended instead of building from scratch)
  4. Select and click on a pattern to add it to your template
    • Example: Adding a promotional section above “Meet the Author”
  5. Edit the text content to fit your needs
  6. Remove unwanted elements by selecting them and tapping the delete key
  7. Replace images by selecting them and choosing “Replace”

Step 6: Save Your Template

  1. Click the “Save” button to apply all your changes
  2. Your changes will automatically appear on all book pages using this template

Additional Notes:

  • The “Meet the Author” and “Testimonial” sections are synced patterns
  • Synced patterns are like reusable sections that update everywhere when changed in one location
